You can find money to pay for college
- by admin

(ARA) – In a competitive job market, earning a degree can be the biggest single step one can take to enhance career value and earning potential. As many bask in the glow of making plans to increase their career potential, the prospect of paying for college is a sobering reality.
Few of us have funds set aside for this endeavor. In addition, the College Board's annual "Trends in College Pricing" reports a rise in tuition costs at public and private institutions for the 2009-2010 school year. According to the report, annual tuition and fees at private four-year colleges rose 4.4 percent to $26,273, and public university costs rose 6.5 percent to $7,020.
Prospective students often don't know where to start. But take heart; Darlene Violet, director of Financial Aid at Brown Mackie College – Akron, Ohio, offers advice on funding your education. "The U.S. Department of Education distributes $96 billion a year in grants, work-study assistance, and low-interest loans," Violet says. "Every student begins the process of seeking financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form, known as the 'FAFSA.'" Information submitted on the FAFSA form determines the amount a student may receive through a federal Pell Grant, which is based on financial need. The recent economic stimulus program increased Pell Grant funds by $500 per student. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
Beyond completing the FAFSA, many turn next to student loans. "An education is always a good investment," says Violet, "but many people don't realize the loans must be paid back starting six months after leaving school. I advise students to seek out and apply for scholarships." Wide varieties of organizations offer scholarships, from fraternities and sororities to community groups, foundations, and corporations. Winning candidates receive funds based on a vast spectrum of criteria, including ethnicity and cultural heritage. "Students just don't take the time to find them," Violet continued. "It can be a lot of work." Read this article »
What is a Pharm D Degree?
- by admin
Every day it seems a new drug pops up on the horizon. Commercials encourage the average consumer to ask their doctor about the new silver bullet. As often as not, the consumer will turn, not to his or her doctor, who is extremely busy, but to their local pharmacist for answers about drugs. The pharmacist has earned a Pharm D degree or Doctor of Pharmacy degree. This is what qualifies him to give advice about drug dosage and interaction, as well as possible side effects.
It isn’t easy to get into a Pharm D program. The competition is fierce and only about 10% of prospective students are accepted into the pharmacy program at top universities. The individual must have completed a prepharmacy course, which takes two years, then enter the Pharm D degree program, which lasts a minimum of four years and more often takes six years to complete.
Although much of the coursework can be completed through distance learning, the final year consists of internships that must be completed at an approved practice site. A Pharm D degree program consists of courses in several branches of chemistry, toxicology, and pharmacology. It is a difficult but very rewarding path for the student who seeks to embrace it.
People rely on their pharmacists, doctors as well as consumers. Pharmacists must keep current about possible drug reactions and interactions, which medications are accepted by different insurance policies, and the generic forms available of each prescription drug. They not only dispense medication they educate the consumer about the prescription, how to take it, when, and possible side effects. The pharmacist learned all this while completing his Pharm D degree program.
Don’t stop short when it comes to your future. If you have a passion for serving the public and love chemistry, learn more about a Pharm D degree program.
Should You Get a Degree in Accounting?
- by admin
An accounting degree doesn't compel you to lay your future on the line to safeguard lives like a cop. A degree in accounting doesn't obligate you to bank on your physical features to live like supermodels and actors. But an accounting degree does call for you to maintain the following traits if you desire to be successful in your desired career path:
Ethical Behavior – An accounting degree will place your ethical principles to the test. The devotion for riches is the source of all evil, and it's your chore to be certain that nobody steals money from your employer. Of course, you must make sure that you don't become tempted, also.
Analytical Skills – Accountants have got to possess sharp analytical skills and sharpen them to excellence. That's because in the financial sector, nothing you observe is real. Everything has to be certified and supported and if you don't think you're up to using intense problem-solving skills, then an accounting degree might not be the appropriate choice for you.
Love for information – Accounting recurrently deals with math. Although you certainly don't have to be a wonder in trigonometry or calculus, you do have to be proficient in math and with an natural love and understanding for solving math problems. There is no gray area for this. You either like it or you don't and if you don't, then striving for an accounting degree may not be right for you.
Good Communication Skills – Contrary to widely held view, accounting degree graduates aren't bumbling nerds. Accountants have got to be able to competently reveal the issues they have uncovered and the actions useful to implement.
When individuals doubt your reasoning, it's crucial that you be able to defend your position adeptly and convincingly or take the risk of losing your customers.
An accounting degree doesn't necessarily oblige you to become an accountant. It may simply be utilized to provide you with the know-how and understanding of how financial matters are processed and how money can be represented and misrepresented in various ways on financial statements.
